The Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Company is a professional Studio Company founded in 2010 located in DUMBO Brooklyn.
Recent performances include The Nutcracker, Stealing Time and a Mixed Bill including The Wedding Procession.
Johnny Almeida was born and raised in Rio de Janiero, Brazil and received his training at the Bolshoi Ballet School. From 2009-2011, he danced with the Brazilian Conservatory Youth Ballet Company, performing in many festivals including Joinville International Dance Festival. Mr. Almeida went on to join the Brazilian Ballet Company where he danced many principal and soloist roles, including Siegfried in Swan Lake, the Prince in The Nutcracker, and Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty. He joined Gelsey Kirkland Ballet in 2013. Mr. Almedia has danced many principal roles with GKB including the Prince in The Nutcracker, Harlequin in Harlequinade, Basilio in Don Quixote and the Prince in Sleeping Beauty. This Mr. Almeida’s fourth season with GKB, and his first season on faculty in Gelsey Kirkland Academy’s Pre-Professional Division.
Nerea Barrondo was born in Bilbao, Spain. She received her early training at Igor Yebra’s Ballet Academy and the Royal Conservatory of Dance Mariemma. At age 14, Ms. Barrondo began her training at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, Russia, and graduated four years later. She danced solo variations at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and Cupid in the Bolshoi Ballet Theatre’s Don Quixote production. She participated in the Prix de Lausanne, won 3rd prize at the Rieti Ballet competition, and 1st and 2nd prize at the Pisa ballet competition. In September 2016, Ms. Barrondo joined Gelsey Kirkland Ballet and in December she made her debut as Marie in GKB’s production of The Nutcracker.
Georgia Brinkman is originally from Austin, Texas and trained for 10 years with Ballet Austin Academy. At the age of 15, she moved to New York City to study at the Ellison Ballet Professional Training Program. In 2015, she entered Gelsey Kirkland Academy‘s Professional Training Program and in 2017, she was invited to join Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. This is Ms. Brinkman’s first season with GKB.
Keisuke Nishikawa was born in Japan and began his training at Seiko Kuramoto Ballet School. In 2013, Mr. Nishikawa was invited to study at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he trained for two years. He won 1st prize at the 2015 Japan Grand Prix. In 2015, Mr. Nishikawa moved to New York to join Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. He has danced Principal and Soloist roles with GKB including the Prince in The Nutcracker.
Katerina was born in Long Island, New York and moved to Vero Beach, Florida when she was 5 years old. She traveled across Florida to train in different ballet academies including Space Coast Ballet in Melbourne, and Kirova Ballet in Miami (both in the Vaganova style). She also trained privately with instructor Hedi Khursandi in the RAD method and attended Summer Intensives in the American Ballet Theatre and the Joffrey. In 2014, Katerina attended the GKA Summer Intensive, and was invited to train the in year-round professional program. In September of 2016, she became an apprentice with the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. Some notable roles include the Bride in Leonid Yakobsen’s The Jewish Wedding, the Principal Ballerina in La Viviandiere, and The Columbine Doll in The Nutcracker.
Isabella Sew-Atjon was born in Paramaribo, Suriname. Ms. Sew-Atjon received her early training at Balletschool Marlène in Paramaribo. She later trained at the Susan Robinson School of Ballet in England and the Caribbean School of Dancing in Trinidad, as well as receiving private coaching from Frédéric Jahn. In 2012, Mr. SewAtjon moved to New York to study in the Professional Training program at Gelsey Kirkland Academy. Upon graduation from GKA in 2015, she joined Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. This is Ms. Sew-Atjon’s second season with GKB.
Natalia Sheptalova trained at The Moscow State Academy of Choreography in Moscow, Russia. Upon graduation, she joined the Russian National Ballet (RNB) where she toured all over the world in corps de ballet and demi-soloist roles. During her time at RNB, she attended the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts where she earned a degree in ballet. In 2010, Ms. Sheptalova moved to New York City and became an assistant teacher at Steps on Broadway. She joined the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet in 2013 and has danced many soloist roles with the company. She is also currently on faculty in Gelsey Kirkland Academy’s Young Dancer Program.
Miguel Solano is originally from Medellin, Colombia. He started his dance training at the age of 17 as a dance major in the Arts department at the District University of Bogotá, Colombia. He continued his studies at BalletStudio in Bogotá, Colombia, under the direction of Patricia Niño and a year later he moved to New York to continue his studies with a full scholarship at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet. After two years, Mr. Solano graduated from the academy and was invited to join Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. This is his second season with GKB. He has also participated as a supernumerary for ABT, performing at the Metropolitan Opera in Lincoln Center on the productions of Cinderella, Manon, Swan Lake among other ballets.
Koki Yamaguchi was born in Japan. He began dancing ballet at the age of 11 and trained at Tokyo Ballet School. In 2013, he moved to Switzerland to join École Atelier Rudra Béjart.
While there, Mr. Yamaguchi studied Martha Graham technique, contemporary dance, acrobatics, traditional dance of India and theatre. In 2015, he moved to New York to join Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. With GKB, Mr. Yamaguchi has danced many principal and soloist roles in the Nutcracker, Stealing Time, Harlequinade and Walpurgis Night.
Kaito Yamamoto was born in Japan. He received his early training at Okajimamidori Ballet Studio and continued his training in at Kanakosakai Ballet Studio in Japan. In 2014, he moved to New York City and joined Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. Mr. Yamamoto has danced many soloist roles with Gelsey Kirkland Ballet in The Nutcracker, Harlequinade and Stealing Time. This is his third season with GKB.
Nina Yoshida was born in New York City, and received her early training with New Jersey Ballet. In 2013, after attending Gelsey Kirkland Academy’s summer program, Ms. Yoshida was invited to study in Gelsey Kirkland Academy’s Professional Training Program. She graduated in 2015, and went on to join Gelsey Kirkland Ballet as an apprentice. In 2016, she was promoted to a full company member. Ms. Yoshida has been featured in soloist and leading roles in Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Stealing Time and Walpurgis Night.
Risako Seki was born in Japan and received her early training at Hakucho Ballet Academy. In 2013, she moved to Switzerland to train at Tanz Akademie Zurich. Upon graduation in 2016, Ms. Seki moved to New York City to join Gelsey Kirkland Ballet. She has been danced soloist and corps de ballet roles with GKB such as Flutes, Walt of the Flowers Demi Soloist and Snow in the Nutcracker. This is Ms. Seki’s first season with Gelsey Kirkland Ballet.
Moorestown, New Jersey
Sophie Agnew received her ballet training at Bowman School of Dance in New Jersey and L’Ecole De La Dance. She performed in numerous productions of The Nutcracker with the Mount Laurel Ballet in collaboration with the Donetsk Ballet of Ukraine, in which she played the lead role of Clara as well as other soloist roles. She has studied at the Koresh School of Dance and the Philadelphia Ballet School and trained in summer intensives at the Joffrey Ballet School, the Cecchetti International Summer School, and at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet. In 2015, Ms. Agnew was invited study at GKA’s Professional Training Program. She joined the studio company as a trainee one year later. She has additionally performed in numerous theatre productions in the Philadelphia area.
